Food allergy is an abnormally strong immune system reaction to proteins in our food. It is a form of food hypersensitivity. Can occur instantly, within seconds or in a few hours.
It is not food poisoning.
Food intolerance is when the reaction happens later and it lasts longer and it’s just uncomfortable. It happens when your body has difficulty digesting.
First of all what is gluten? A protein found in grains, such as wheat, barley and rye.
The popular belief is that there is no such thing as an allergy to gluten, but there are 2 different alternatives to it: an intolerance to gluten or Celiac Disease.
Now, the Celiac Disease., can only be determined by a specialized doctor and some of the symptoms may include: severe diarrhea, a rash, severe weight loss or failure to properly gain weight, and abdominal pain. So, if you experience any of those symptoms make sure you are paying a visit to your doctor.
The gluten intolerance, unfortunately has no test that you can take and determine if that is why you are not feeling well. What you can do is monitor your condition after eating products that have gluten.
Symptoms of a gluten intolerance may include: bloating, diarrhea, constipation, unpleasant smell if your stool, abdominal pain, headaches, tiredness, skin problems.
Even if a medic can determine if you have a gluten allergy, if you experience any of those symptoms on a regular basis, you should visit your doctor because there are other tests that can be made.
You may encounter problems because of a possible cross-reactivity with: milk, corn, rice, yeast.
Good luck and take care.
