10 Rum Cocktails That You Should Know

This month is all about Rum and we want to end it with this list of known rum cocktails.

Cuba libre

Cuba libre

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml rum  
  • 25 ml lime juice 
  • Coke
  • Ice
  • Garnish: lime wheel or lime wedges

Tools 

  • Bar spoon
  • Collins glass


The how to 

In your add the rum, lime juice and ice to the top. Top the glass with the coke and stir well. Garnish with the lime wheels or wedges, whatever you prefer.


Daiquiri 

Daiquiri

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml rum
  • 25 ml lime juice
  • 10 ml simple syrup 
  • Ice
  • Garnish: lime peel

Tools 

  • Shaker
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer
  • Coupe glass- chilled


The how to 

In your shaker add the rum, lime juice, simple syrup and shake well. Double strain in your glass with no ice and garnish with your lime peel. 


El presidente

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml Rum
  • 15 ml orange liqueur 
  • 10 ml dry Vermouth 
  • Splash grenadine
  • Ice
  • Garnish: orange peel

Tools 

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon 
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer  
  • Coupe glass- chilled 


The how to 

In your mixing glass add ice to the top.  Add the rum, orange liqueur, dry vermouth and a splash of grenadine. Stir for 20 second, until well chilled. Double strain in your chilled coupe glass. Squeeze the orange peel on top of the glass and dump in.


Pina colada

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml Rum
  • 75 ml pineapple juice 
  • 25 ml coconut cream
  • Ice
  • Garnish: pineapple wedge

Tools 

  • Shaker
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer
  • Collins glass


The how to 

In your shaker add the rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream. Add ice and shake well. Double strain in your glass over ice and garnish with a pineapple wedge. You can also do this drink in a blender for a refreshed and delicious kick.  


Dark ‘n’ stormy 

Dark ‘n’ stormy

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml Dark Rum
  • 15 ml lime juice
  • 120 ml ginger beer
  • Ice 
  • Garnish: lime wheel, lemon wheel

Tools 

  • Bar spoon
  • Collins glass 


The how to 

Top the glass with ice. Add the lime juice, rum and the ginger beer. Give it a stir. Garnish with the 2 citrus wheels. 


Mojito

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml Rum
  • 25 ml lime juice
  • 7-8 mint leaves
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Soda water 
  • Ice 
  • Garnish: lime wheel and extra mint

Tools 

  • Muddler
  • Bar spoon 
  • Collins glass


The how to 

In your glass add the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice. Press the mint leaves gently. Add the ice and the rum. Top the glass with soda water. Use the spoon to stir in the glass without disturbing the mint on the bottom. Garnish with your extra mint and a lime wheel.  


Caipirinha

  • 50 ml Rum
  • 15 ml orange liqueur 
  • 10 ml dry Vermouth 
  • Splash grenadine
  • Ice
  • Garnish: orange peel

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon 
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer  
  • Coupe glass- chilled


The how to

Hurricane

  • 50 ml White Rum
  • 50 ml Dark Rum 
  • 25 ml lime juice
  • 25 ml orange juice
  • 15 ml passion fruit puree
  • 10 ml grenadine syrup 
  • Garnish: preserved cherry & orange wheel

Tools 

  • Shaker
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer
  • Collins glass


The how to 

In your shaker add the rums, juices, passion fruit puree, grenadine syrup and ice. Shake well. Double strain in your glass over ice and garnish with your cherry and orange wheel. 


Rum Old Fashioned 

Rum Old Fashioned 

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml Dark Rum
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1 sugar cube 
  • Ice: 1 big cube
  • Garnish: orange peel

Tools 

  • Bar spoon
  • Rocks glass


The how to 

In your glass add the sugar cube, water and the dashes of angostura bitters. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the rum and stir again. Add the ice cube and stir some more. Squeeze the orange peel on top of the glass and dump it in. 


Mai Tai 

Rum Old Fashioned 

Ingredients 

  • 50 ml white rum
  • 30 ml dark rum 
  • 15 ml lime juice
  • 15 ml orange curacao 
  • 15 ml orgreat 
  • Ice
  • Garnish: mint leaves & lime wheel

Tools 

  • Shaker
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Tea strainer
  • Rocks glass


The how to 

In your shaker add the white rum, lime juice, orange curacao, orgeat and ice. Shake well. Double strain over ice in your glass. Pour the dark rum in slowly on top of the glass. Garnish with the mint leaves and the lime wheel.
